Roy R. Robson is Professor of History and Director of the Honors Program at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. He teaches courses on modern Europe, Russia, and world religions. His interdisciplinary teaching includes “Intellectual Heritage: Time” and “Views of the Cosmos." Robson writes extensively on Russian history and world religions. I am an Aerospace Engineering student and bought this book to supplement my Controls course. The book is informative and helpful. Before starting my Controls course, I used MATLAB but wasn't familiar with many of the controls functions and their purposes. This book does a good job letting you become familiar and comfortable with MATLAB. The book isn't as helpful in my advanced Controls classes, but I still refer back to it when I need a refresher on something.

I recommend this book for anyone who is a beginner in control design. this is a very good book. well written

In my quest to read all of Cormac McCarthy's work I have finally gotten around to reading his screen plays. I would rather read a novel but this screen play is beautiful. I was almost fearful to start it because the last screen play I read was vile and I am trying to forget it. Now back to the Stonemason. The story is of a black family, they all live together and the 4 generations are painted vividly. Paw Paw at 102 is a gentle man. He minds his own business, yet has made a lasting impression on his grandson Ben. Ben is following Paw Paw into the stonemason trade. He sees the beauty and the art in this creative work. Ben is the heart of the family. His wife says, "Ben you think you can fix everything" Paw Paw dies, and so does Ben's Dad. Dad is not the man that he portrays himself to be---Big Ben is weak and self-centered. Ben tries vainly to save his 16 year old nephew, from himself. When the play ends the audience has the feeling that Ben's love and caring will see the family through the storms of life.

McCarthy moves away from his dark ways. This is not a Blood Meridian, Child of God, or even a Crossings trilogy. This is about a normal, an extraordinary but normal, extended family. There is darkness and there is light. There is the same feeling of history and God as one sees at the end of The Road in the markings on the trout. THis is about God in the stone and how only a Stonemason can receive and release it (this last sounds a bit of bull to me but do read it).

This play is not the usual Cormac McCarthy, but, then, what is? Although this isn't among my favorites by this author, he's still far ahead of the field.

4 stars because there was some problems with dialect, there was some problem with speech for the characters and by plays-end it was obvious that McCarthay was speaking his own philosophy--not that there is something so wrong with that but I found something uneven about it. ALL IN ALL: McCarthy is just what people say about him: a true writer, his characters do come alive even in this play; he can deliver a story in an amazing literary way; he is funny. He is right on. A white man writing black people...now that was a challenge for me to read neutrally to see how he did. Well, he did it well but it wasn't pure because "Negro" culture was anti-suicide in a big way. But all is forgiven for the way McCarthy presented "Pawpa" and his vibrant feelings about his 80-yr career as a stonemason. The old man felt like a person during times when society seemed dead set at preventing all Negro men from feeling their own person and manhood. AMAZING ALSO that McCarthy makes no big effort to demonstrate racism or talk about it too much. There was more happening in this family's life and times than racism. I just loved this reading experience. I love it that Mc Carthy was able to deliver a full story in a play.--MO

The Stonemason is the rare work by Cormac McCarthy that is ultimately uplifting. That is not to disparage his great, dark works like the All the Pretty Horses and No Country for Old Men, but The Stonemason is McCarthy at his best with a positive message to boot.

A short but great read. Perfect for a plane trip or rainy afternoon. I would recommend it to any Cormac McCarthy fan.

This play explores the life of a near mythic craftsman and his family. Almost biblical in it's writing.

I am always looking for new and contemporary stuff. This play fits the bill nicely. Cormac McCaarthy is one of my favorite authors and does not disappoint here. Very well done.
